Mexico - A UNESCO World Heritage site
Xochicalco in the State of Morelos (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), Mexico is one of the most exciting and richest archaeological sites in all Mexico. It is an area that was developed during the period between the destruction of Teotihuacan (Aztec) and the beginning of Tollan (Toltec) around 800/900 A.D.Xochicalco was not only the oldest known fortress in Middle America, but also a religious center. Xochicalco means "Place of the House of the Flowers", although at present time, the hilltops are arid. The stronghold is 132 m (430 ft) above a wide plain on a sugar-loaf where ball courts, palaces and living quarters were erected.Later the whole area was terraced and stair stepped with stone supports facing around each one leading higher upward to the broad platform where the most fascinating of archaeological findings rest. One of the most important attractions is the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent with some of the finest decorative panelling outside of the Yucatán, as well as the intriguing so-called Observatory cave. Colour changers belonging to the renowned KOLORADO series and a couple of TRACER 4000 sky trackers are the projectors by GRIVEN that have been installed on the site to create an amazing night experience for all visitors.Regrettably the spectacular effect is only partially enjoyable through the pictures included. We should be able to post professional shots shortly.
