France - KIPSTADIUM: An experimental sport laboratory
With the brand new Kipstadium, Kipsta, a brand owned by Decathlon, has inaugurated a new way of playing a team sport. More than just a sports complex, Kipstadium was thought by Kipsta as a "user's observation center", a place where amateur and professional athletes can interact with Kipsta staff, both to receive technical advice and to share exercise habits and needs. Everyone can participate in the creation and optimization of Kipsta products, while the renowned sports brand can improve the quality of its creations adapting them to the real needs of the end users according to their feedback.
Spanning over 45,000 m² equipped with 20 indoor and outdoor courts and pitches and a 900 m2 Kipsta store, Kipstadium allows sports lovers of every age and ability to practice in more than 30 different activities 7 days a week, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 p.m.. Hockey, cricket, baseball, American football, handball, basketball, volleyball, rugby, futsal and, of course, football can be played with top-quality equipment on different kind of surface (wood, PVC, synthetic grass, concrete and sand). Partnerships have been already signed with local schools, professional teams and sports clubs to allow them an easy access to the Kipstadium facilities.
Located in the district of the Union, at the crossroads of the cities of Tourcoing, Roubaix and Wattrelos northeast of Lille, Kipstadium has been built on the ruins of a disused industrial site, former location of the Grande Brasserie Moderne (GBM), later become Brasserie Terken (a famous brewery founded in 1920 and closed in 2004), then transformed into a bus deposit of the Transpole Union. Desirous of respecting and preserving this heritage, Kipsta has maintained, renovated and refurbished the old factory buildings to keep a strong connection to the past while protecting the historical and cultural significance of the place.
The true value of the rebirth of the old brewery can be better seen by night, when the new contours and shapes are further emphasized by lively bright colours. The lighting designer Yann Kersalé of the SNAIK Atelier Yann Kersalé Light Art, has developed an exciting colour changing scheme that enhances with a skilled use of colours the structural diversity of the complex. Installed by the French lighting company Eiffage, 7 units of POWERSHINE MK2 D RGBW light up the upper part of the tower. Owing to its double cluster configuration, which offers full independent control of each LED bank, this wall washer allows absolute freedom to create matching or divergent effects on formerly prohibitive large-scale facades and remote spots. The eye catching honeycomb structure, true distinctive feature that tops a large part of the building, has been illuminated with a live colour changing scheme elegantly performed by 11 POWERSHINE MK2 S in RGBW configuration. To complete the design, 6 units of EMERALD RGBW have been used to enhance the exterior stairs.
"We chose Griven Powershine fixtures for this project owing to their powerful light output. The different fixtures installed have allowed us to achieve a harmonious result in terms of light output and color rendering. The fine adjustment and aiming that we could reach through the possibility of individually adjusting the orientation of the LED banks has also been very important" asserts Nedir Benkhelifa of SNAIK.
