Designed by Dark Source and manufactured by Griven, DS and DS PRO are decorative and functional outdoor luminaires that put environmental responsibility first, inspired by DarkSky principles. They were developed as part of a sustainable lighting improvement project in North Wales, made possible with the support of Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri National Park.

DS and DS PRO were conceived by lighting designer Kerem Asfuroglu and Eryri National Park.to address a challenge shared by dark-sky advocates worldwide: the lack of affordable, sustainable and durable outdoor lighting alternatives aligned with both dark-sky principles and industrial quality standards. Many domestic exterior lights fail to meet basic performance requirements, resulting in unnecessary material, energy, and financial waste. In contrast, DS and DS PRO have been engineered to ensure longevity, versatility and adaptability across both residential and commercial applications, while respecting DarkSky International principles. By combining sustainability with technical precision, these luminaires provide a responsible alternative for outdoor illumination without compromising the night sky.

DS PRO with lantern

DS and DS PRO have been specifically designed for architectural environments where precise light control and refined aesthetics are required. They minimise light pollution while delivering glare-free illumination. In accordance with DarkSky principles, these luminaires direct the luminous flux with exceptional precision exclusively onto the areas of interest, eliminating any upward emission. This ensures optimal visual comfort and a balanced nocturnal perception that respectfully engages with the surrounding environment and fauna.

The basic version DS features an LED light source diffused through a prismatic glass and an integrated on/off driver. Available in four warm white colour temperatures – 2700K, 2200K, 1800K and 1000K – it delivers a lumen output below 500 lm, in accordance with DarkSky principles. Optional visor and snoot accessories provide further glare control.

Featuring an integrated DALI-2 dimmable driver, DS PRO is available in two versions in accordance with the DarkSky classification: Commercial, with a lumen output exceeding 1000 lm, and Residential, with an output below 1000 lm. Both configurations are available in 3000K, 2700K and 2200K warm white light, while the Residential version is also offered in 1800K and 1000K amber spectra, specifically suited to environmentally sensitive and wildlife-friendly applications. Designed to adapt seamlessly to different architectural requirements, DS PRO offers three installation options: wall mounting, corner wall mounting, and linear wall mounting. An elegant lantern, available with or without a screen, further extends the luminaire’s functional versatility. An optional PIR motion sensor, a wide choice of optics, together with a selection of glare-control accessories – including a visor, snoot and integrated honeycomb filter – provide additional flexibility for precise, environmentally responsible outdoor lighting.

Crafted from die-cast aluminum using recycled and locally sourced materials, both versions reflect a responsible approach to design. Their fully demountable body facilitates maintenance operations and enables complete recyclability at end of life, in line with circular economy principles.
