For 35 years, the ATP tournament Croatia Open Umag has
been a symbol of sport, passion, and world-class tennis, with Plava Laguna
proudly supporting the event since its very beginning. The tournament is hosted
at the ATP stadium within the iconic Stella Maris Resort—an open-air venue that
creates a unique atmosphere where spectators are only steps away from the sea.
With its modernized infrastructure, upgraded seating, and premium hospitality
areas, the stadium has become a benchmark not only for Croatian sports
facilities but also across the ATP Tour.

Over the decades, Umag has crowned champions such as
Carlos Alcaraz (2021) and Jannik Sinner (2022), while also welcoming many of
the sport’s brightest rising stars. This year’s edition, held from July 19 to
26, once again confirmed Croatia Open Umag as the longest-running and most
successful sporting event in the country. Adding to the spectacle, the venue’s
new lighting design—conceived by Skira Architectural Lighting—introduces a
dual-layered concept that combines technical precision with immersive atmosphere.
The court’s lighting system has been meticulously
engineered to meet the demanding requirements of 4K television broadcasting,
ensuring that every serve, volley, and drop shot is captured with exceptional
clarity, contrast, and emotional impact for audiences worldwide. A total of 28
MARS RGBW units, equipped with either wide or spot optics, were mounted on high
mast poles to deliver bright dynamic colours when the atmosphere calls for it.
Meanwhile, the stadium’s architectural and decorative
lighting transforms the exterior side of the venue into a vibrant nighttime
landmark. Using advanced linear and dot luminaires in RGBW configuration,
controlled through DMX technology, the system creates dynamic light scenes that
respond to the rhythm of the tournament. The result is a signature visual
identity that elevates the experience for players, spectators, and viewers
alike. At the heart of this design are 96 GRAPH-I-CELL units and 96
GRAPH-I-LINE 20 fixtures—both in RGBW with opaline domes—which define the
contours of the stadium’s exterior crown. Together, they set the arena aglow in
a choreographed play of chasing lights, intensifying the atmosphere and making
the venue an eye-catching spectacle.
