Koprivnica, a picturesque city in northern Croatia,
has long been a crossroads of history and progress. Once one of the most
important urban centers in northern Croatia and Slavonia, the city today
continues to balance its proud heritage with forward-looking urban renewal.
At the center of this transformation stands the City
Hall, a landmark that embodies both the city’s past and its aspirations for the
future. The foundation stone for the building—originally erected as a public
school—was laid in the mid-19th century by Ban Josip Jelačić, a key figure in
Croatian history. At the time, the building was hailed as one of the most
beautiful school edifices in the country. Decades later, in 1892, it was
repurposed to serve as the seat of the City Government, with an additional wing
added to accommodate the City Police Department. Since 1993, it has been the
official home of Koprivnica’s municipal administration.

Now, more than a century after its transformation, the
City Hall has undergone a careful renovation designed to highlight its
architectural elegance while bringing it into the 21st century. The façade has
been revitalized and accentuated by modern LED lighting technology, a feature
that marries aesthetics with sustainability. The new lighting, specified and supplied
by Lipapromet d.o.o. of Zagreb, delivers striking visual impact with high
energy efficiency and minimal light pollution.
Linear Parade L series bars in an RGB+W 4000K colour
configuration were selected in varying lengths to suit their placement across
the City Hall façade, highlighting its distinctive architectural features and
the elegant columns of the upper structure. Complementing these are in-ground
fixtures—also part of Griven’s renowned flagship range—discreetly recessed at
the building’s base to create a seamless visual harmony between the lower and
upper sections.
A soft white light provides refined illumination
during ordinary evening hours, while dynamic, colour-changing displays are
reserved for festive occasions and special events, marking national and
international celebrations with vibrancy and style.
The renewal of the City Hall reflects Koprivnica’s
enduring ability to evolve—honoring its deep historical roots while shining
brightly into the future.
