Located in Rabat’s Agdal district, El Barid
Stadium—officially renamed Stade Al Medina following its reconstruction—served
as a key venue for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, standing out in vibrant,
dynamic waves of colour during and beyond the prestigious tournament.
Originally constructed in 1970, the former stadium
served for decades as the home ground of Union Touarga SC, a historic club in
Morocco’s top division. With a capacity of just 2,000 spectators, a basic
playing surface and no lighting, the facility no longer met the standards
required for modern football competitions.
Completely rebuilt and inaugurated on 13
November 2025, the new Stade Al Medina is a contemporary football arena with a
seating capacity of 18,000 and state-of-the-art facilities throughout. It
features a natural grass pitch designed to ensure optimal playing conditions
and excellent visual quality. Its minimalist architecture, combined with a
sunken playing field, guarantees clear, unobstructed views from every seat,
creating a fully immersive experience for spectators.

A defining feature of the stadium is its distinctive ring roof, designed as a soft cloud enveloping the structure with a gently waving contour. This elegant architectural gesture gives the stadium a calm and contemporary identity while remaining highly functional, providing shade, weather protection, rainwater collection for pitch irrigation, and supporting integrated solar panels to enhance environmental sustainability.
Beyond football, the stadium includes landscaped forecourts with retail and dining facilities, creating a vibrant social hub for supporters and visitors alike. Combining functionality, sustainability and contemporary design, Stade Al Medina stands as a modern and welcoming venue, fully befitting any major continental competition.
To complete its striking new presence, a distinctive lighting scheme was required to enhance the stadium’s elliptically undulating façade, creating a carousel of vivid and dynamic colour effects capable of conveying the emotions of the event to the crowds of supporters gathered outside the stadium.
Given the scale of the structure, high-performance LED lighting fixtures with a minimally intrusive presence were required to implement the desired lighting concept across the entire stadium perimeter. A total of 128 JASPER MK2 units in RGBW configuration, fitted with extra-wide optics, were selected by Lamalif Group to deliver the required high-level performance while minimising power consumption.
The lighting transforms the stadium into a vibrant spectacle, with waves of colour flowing along its undulating façade. Dynamic sequences of colours accentuate the building’s contours, creating a captivating visual rhythm that mirrors the energy and emotions of the match, while engaging fans both inside and outside the stadium.
